Created in loving memory of Lashawn Renee Belford, who passed away on June 4, 2026, at the age of 42 from breast cancer complications. This scholarship empowers dedicated high school seniors entering the medical field to pursue education and advance the search for a cure.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who are deeply committed to pursuing a degree in the medical field. We seek passionate students ready to share their family story, how breast cancer has affected their lives, their motivation to help others, and their long-term goals once they complete their medical education.
Submission requirements
To apply, students must submit a 2 to 3 page essay detailing why they are applying and why they deserve this award. The essay should explain your understanding of breast cancer, how you intend to help those affected, and how your future medical career will contribute to patient care and finding a cure.
Award details & timeline
The Lashawn Renee Belford Scholarship offers a $3,000 award designed to help cover essential college expenses, including textbooks, travel, and necessary learning materials. Applications will officially open in January 2027 and remain open through August 2027.
